The University of Utah, a large research institution with over 34,000 students and 300 buildings, needed to enhance its classroom AV technology. With a mix of hybrid and inperson classes, the university sought a solution to standardize and improve audio and video quality across diverse room setups.
With classrooms ranging from small discussion spaces to large lecture halls, the need for clear audio in every learning environment was critical, particularly in spaces where tracking and amplifying professors' voices presented unique difficulties. The university sought a scalable, cost-effective solution to deliver high-definition video and crystal-clear audio while integrating seamlessly with its existing infrastructure. Reliable performance was essential to enhance the student experience, ensuring equitable learning opportunities across all settings.

After evaluating several options, they found Rocware online and though not yet familiar with the brand they researched further, driven by the brand’s price point. The university selected the RM702C microphone with AI-enabled features for deployment in a large classroom. The product was chosen for its audio quality and its ability to integrate seamlessly with existing brand agnostic systems, as well as its cascading ability. These mics can be cascaded together using only ethernet cables, supplying power at the same time while also easily extending the audio pick-up range up to 60 ft. They further expanded the sound quality by acquiring the A10 speaker system, with automatic beamforming 360° omnidirectional longdistance straightforward voice pickup. In order to test the product, Darrell Maya, Rocware Sales Manager, provided demo units. Thanks to the quality sound, noise-free audio capture, and ease of deployment the University was impressed and agreed to purchase several units.
Rocware worked closely with the university’s IT team to ensure a smooth rollout. The devices were installed quickly, thanks to their plug-and-play compatibility and intuitive setup process. Rocware also provided hands-on training sessions for the university’s AV support staff to optimize system performance and streamline ongoing management.
The customer purchased 20 RM702C's, one A10 speakerphone and RC08 webcam. Since implementing Rocware’s AV solutions, the University of Utah has reported significantly improved audio and video quality, particularly in hybrid classes. Faculty and students alike noted the ease of use and effectiveness of the new systems. Encouraged by the positive impact of Rocware’s audio solutions, the University of Utah plans to expand the deployment to additional classrooms and explore other Rocware technologies for future classroom upgrade projects such as the 841U PTZ cameras for its larger classrooms.
